We look ahead to the Fitbit Charge 6 release date, with the latest rumors and speculation to figure out when this new fitness tracker is out. Plus, speculation for price and specs aplenty. It’s been a couple of years since the Charge 5, so many people are expecting a new release from the popular fitness watch brand coming up.

Fitbit were acquired by Google back in January 2021, so it could be an exciting time for the well-established brand. Between this and the upcoming Google Pixel Watch 2, we hope to see a lot in this space. Not to mention Apple Watch Series 9 on the way too! Plenty of wearable tech to look forward to.

Either way, we’re going to focus on everything there is to know about the Fitbit Charge 6 right now. Read on ahead to learn all about when to expect & what to expect from the latest in Fitbit’s Charge series.

Fitbit Charge 6 release window prediction

Knowing the exact Fitbit Charge 6 release date can be tricky right now, given a somewhat varied release date history (which you can see below). August 2021 was the last time Fitbit released a new Charge fitness tracker, so current predictions put the release date as August 2023, though some editions have seen the Charge release in September – or even as late as November in the case of the original. At the moment though, August seems like the safest bet ahead of any official news.

Fitbit Charge release date history

To get a good understanding of the release pattern of recent Fitbit Charge models, we’ve put together their release date history. The original released back in 2014, with the most recent Fitbit Charge 5 dropping in 2021.

  • Fitbit Charge release date: November 2014
  • Fitbit Charge 2 release date: September 2016
  • Fitbit Charge 3 release date: August 2018
  • Fitbit Charge 4 release date: March 2020
  • Fitbit Charge 5 release date: August 2021

As you can see, a new Fitbit Charge would come around every two years, but we saw consecutive releases in 2020 and 2021. This led many people to think that the Fitbit Charge 6 release date would continue that trend and arrive in 2022. Obviously, this wasn’t the case – but maybe we can rely on the old biennial release date to see Charge 6 in 2024, likely during August based on recent trends.

Will there be a Fitbit Charge 6?

There has been uncertainty about the future of the Fitbit Charge series, as expressed by some users on the Fitbit community forums. They believe it’s time for a refresh, but at the same time suspect that Google’s take over of the company could be shifting more focus on their Pixel Watch.

However, the Charge line-up remains a popular fitness tracker, so it would be surprising to see it go away just like that. As we can see from the release date history, there was no refresh in 2022 – but it may just be the previous two-year release schedule coming back. As one of the best fitness trackers on the market, we expect the Fitbit Charge 6 to show up.

Fitbit Charge 6 specs & features to expect

There isn’t too much to know about the Fitbit Charge 6 right now when it comes to specs. An early report from 9to5Google did reveal that the Charge 6 won’t look too different from it’s previous iteration. However, since we didn’t actually see it arrive in 2022, a more major rework may be taking place since that news. If not, we can base a few early specs on it’s predecessor.

  • OLED screen
  • Curved glass design
  • Metal bezels & border

The Charge has always occupied the space between fitness tracking and smartwatch, so there’s no reason to expect any changes there. Here are some features we expect to see early on.

Bluetooth Low Energy

According to NotebookCheck, the Charge 6 will again feature Bluetooth connectivity, as we would all expect. Bluetooth Low Energy is a feature which allows your Fitbit you limit it’s power consumption as much as possible, all the while taking advantage of Bluetooth connectivity. Previous Charge devices have had a generous battery life of up to 4 days, and low energy features like this help preserve that benchmark as much as possible. The report reveals that Charge 6 also looks to provide NFC, GPS, and GLONASS connectivity as well.

Smart features

Since there has been some time since the Charge 5, we can expect to see similar upgrades to what we saw in the 2022 Fitbit line-up – like the Inspire 3, Sense 2 or Versa 4. First off, the latest Charge model supports Fitbit Pay as part of it’s feature list. Since Fitbit is now owned by Google, we see no reason why Google Pay can’t be featured too – it sees more widespread use, especially in places like the UK. The Sense 2 and Versa 4 do support this already, as part of the Google Wallet.

We also want to see the return of the altimeter. As the name suggests, this tracks your altitude and was featured on the Charge 4. Strangely enough, with was something which was cut from the Charge 5, so we’d like to see it return for the latest rendition. It’s still a handy tool when tracking fitness progress, especially if you’re an avid hiker.

Fitbit Charge 6 expected price

You can consider a few different factors which predicting the price of the Fitbit Charge 6. The first thing to compare is the rest of the Fitbit Charge models, as well as other recent Fitbit products within a similar price range. We haven’t seen any sudden price increases from them lately, so Charge 6 may be a similar story. Fitbit’s Inspire 3, Sense 2, and Versa 4 all kept the same price as their predecessors. These all released during Fall 2022 while the newest Charge was nowhere to be found.

Combine that with the fact that we already saw a price rise of $30/£40 from Charge 4 to Charge 5, we don’t expect a further price hike again after just 1 generation. That means we could be seeing the Fitbit Charge 6 release at a price of around $180 / £170 – the same as the Charge 5. However, since it’s been a couple of years, Google may deem that enough time to give the price a slight bump.
