SEGA has informed players via email that the ‘Sights, Sounds and Speed Update’ DLC will be available on this week and marks the first Sonic Frontiers DLC release date to come our way. The Sights, Sounds and Speed DLC will be the first of three free updates.

This report seems to be contradictive, with the official webpage for Sonic Frontiers claiming “The first of 3 free content updates for Sonic Frontiers is out March 22!” Other sources like The Nerd Stash are also claiming the same thing: “The Sonic Frontiers Sights, Sounds, and Speed DLC release date is March 22, 2023 at 5 PM PST/8 PM EDT. SEGA is already beginning to send out emails to fans that signed up for updates.”

However, the email sent out by SEGA to fans who signed up for updates claim that the release date is the 23rd. Read on for more about that.

Until the update is fully available, we cannot confirm with complete confidence which of these dates is correct. While the email does not contain any additional information about the DLC, Sega had previously released a content roadmap for 2023, which seems to fit the title of the first update.

Sonic Frontiers DLC release date announced as March 23rd, along with two extra free DLCS

The roadmap indicated that the first update would feature a Photo mode, a Jukebox, and new Challenge modes, which correspond to the ‘Sights, Sounds and Speed’ title.

“The first of three free content updates for Sonic Frontiers is coming 23rd March,” the email states, “With newly added features and modes, it’s time to experience the Sights, Sounds, and Speed of the Starfall Islands.”

Tails Channel, a Sonic news site, has shared more details about the update. According to the site, the Jukebox mode will initially contain 13 tracks, with 40 others scattered throughout the Starfall Islands as ‘sound memories’ that players can collect.

The Challenge modes included will reportedly be a Battle Rush mode where players face off against multiple bosses, and a Cyber Space Challenge time attack mode.

Sega’s content roadmap suggests that the second free DLC update will include ‘Sonic’s Birthday,’ as well as an Open Zone Challenge mode and new Koco characters.

The third and final free DLC will feature new playable characters and new story content.

Sonic Frontiers is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
